PSA to Church-going Folks

So, I’m on vacation today. We are out and about and I overhear a conversation between some folks who had just come from church. I won’t bore you with all the details, but they were complaining about the things they didn’t like about the service this morning. I did not hear one kind thing said. It reminded me of a few things:

  1. Church is not for you—it is for God. We go there to worship Him, not our preferences.
  2. If you openly complain about your church in public, don’t expect new people to show up. Why would someone go with you to a church that even you don’t like?
  3. Instead if complaining about how you don’t like the church, spend that energy volunteering to make it better. Chances are your church could use your help!
  4. If you must complain, tell it to someone who can actually help make a change. Anything else is potentially gossip.
